Besides getting grant from Dept. of Women & Child Development, Government of Maharashtra we work with many other agencies of the government. Our South Mumbai centre is located in Sindhi Galli Municipality School of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. We create access for our children to the municipal and state hospital for treatments. We are engaged with the government on the issue of guidelines for open shelters for street children and other issues.
We collaborate and partner with many like-minded NGOs who have been with us in our journey of 30 years. We celebrate important days and occasions with them as well as form alliances to fight for the rights of street children. We exchange expertise through trainings and workshops for our team members.
Volunteers support Vatsalya's endeavours in a big way. Their time and skills help us sustain and encourage us to work better. The volunteers come from different backgrounds and bring a variety of skills and knowledge. They help us in teaching the children, read stories to them, conducting art and craft workshops, hold specialized classes like Capoiera and Contemporary Dance, put together a play and in many more ways. The only requirement for someone to become a volunteer at Vatsalya is willingness to do something worthwhile for the children or the organization.
The annual graduation event Batizado (baptism) of Capoeira group ‘Cordao De Ouro’ was held during 19-21 November 2013 in Bandra and Andheri. The members of the group are volunteers with Vatsalya who have been dedicatedly training the boys of Shelter Home in the Brazilian martial art caopiera for several years. Boys of Shelter Home have been learning the art in a very disciplined way as a result of which five boys reached the third level and were given the Yellow Belt. 10 boys reached the second level who received Green-Yellow belt while nine were given the first level Green belt. The boys hold their belts and memories of the event close to their hearts. The Vatsalya family is proud of the boys and grateful to the volunteers who’ve trained them.
November 14th is a special day for all the kids at Vatsalya. Like every year it was celebrated by remembering the significance of children’s day. It was an opportunity to reinforce the rights and responsibilities of children and to be determined to manifest them in actions.
Tinkle Team from Amar Chitra Katha Pvt. Ltd. visited Vatsalya on November 12th to celebrate the Children’s Day. A drawing competition was organized by the team for the children of Shelter Home and the centres. Two huge live toys were the main attraction of the event with whom all the children wanted to interact and click pictures. The children gave greeting cards as gifts to the guests. A team member of Tinkle remarked at the end of the celebration, "What a wonderful time we had! Thanks for your beautiful drawings, diyas and cards. Keep it up!"

The team and children of Vatsalya's Shelter Home were happy to have the team of the company Clariant Chemicals on May 15, 2013. The team spent more than four hours interacting with the kids which they enjoyed thoroughly. Ms. Priyanka Shivan, Executive Assistant to Vice Chairman & Managing Director to the company liked the confidence of our kids and way they answered her questions. The team from Clariant Chemicals was impressed with the aspirations of the children to become actor, dancer, doctor etc. Their innocence and hope against all odds touched the team deeply. The team gave Vatsalya cash donation in addition to educational kits to each child.
